Simple & Powered Machines (Ages 5-8)

simple and power machines summer 2017

Experience the The LEGO® Simple and Powered Machines program during Robotics Summer Camp! Students will spend the week building and programming robots, and experience additional arts activities as we transition from STEM-based learning to STEAM-based learning. There will be field trip options allowing students to understand the real world applications of STEM!
Advanced curricula is available for returning students.

At IRIS, we provide students with educational STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning programs using LEGO Robotics technology!   The camp structure will provide students with the time and resources required to work with their peers, create complex designs and participate in challenges and activities. Students will explore STEM topics beyond the classroom, create real world applications and discover the countless career opportunities in related fields.

The Simple Machines educational set introduces students to key simple machines concepts and the real world applications. Students will explore and investigate simple machines such as gears, wheels, axles, levers, pulleys and concepts such as energy, balance, buoyancy, etc. As students are building and working through the activities they will be prompted to observe and investigate simple machines, follow design instructions, and exercise skills such as predicting, reflecting and critical thinking.

The simple and powered machines educational set introduces students to a fundamental understanding of simple machines, structures and mechanisms. Students will be encouraged to build and explore real life machines, mechanisms and structures and analyze the real world applications and connections. This set allows students to utilize experiments to investigate and understand the principle mechanics defining machines.  Students will experiment with balanced and unbalanced forces, friction, experience capturing, storing and transferring wind energy, and measure distance, time, speed and weight.
